BAÑOS DEL INCA
It is located 6 km east of the city of Cajamarca (15 minutes by car) Visiting hours: Mon 6:00-18:30 thermal water temperatures above 70 º C (158 º F). Originally called the place, Pultumarca and according to tradition, was resting place of the Inca Atahualpa shortly before the confrontation with Pizarro.
This place is especially appealing for its hot springs, have medicinal properties for curing rheumatic diseases, nervous disorders and skin. The liquid emerges from subsurface volcanic rock whose temperature reaches 70 to 75 degrees Celsius. Numerous testimonies of people cured of rheumatism, bronchitis and other diseases attest to the healing power of these thermal mineral waters or scientifically known as thermionic.
Today, the resort receives each day to about four thousand visitors from around the world. It is considered the main attraction of the tourist circuit of the department of Cajamarca. Here is the famous Poza del Inca, which measures four feet long by four wide and has a depth of one meter seventy centimeters. Here, according to historians, Atahualpa recover his strength before embarking on new journeys of conquest and, later, to combat the armies of Huascar, his brother. Los Baños del Inca looks well preserved and with some renovations. It has four sections: service showers (19 boxes), collective pools (35 rooms), 58 individual pools for tourists and a section with 19 imperial pools.
